Dim sum has mixed orignins. Teahouses were first established along the silk routes for travellers who needed to rest and soon they began to attract other people as well. Many of the dim sum snacks are believed to have originally been invented to please the emperors during the Song dynasty.When Hong Kong grew into a trading port, its newly wealthy citizens adopted tea drinking and dim sum snacks as a way to relax.
